Memorial Day

Jim

Memorial Day is Monday, May 27th. A federal holiday, this day of remembrance is set aside to honor those who have died while serving in the U.S. military. While this holiday has a solemn meaning and history, it is also a day of appreciation and celebration. It ushers in the season of summer and is a popular weekend for picnics, gatherings and travel.

Here are some additional facts you might find interesting:

  • History: Originally called "Decoration Day," Memorial Day was established after the Civil War to honor fallen soldiers on both sides. Over time, it became known as Memorial Day, evolving to encompass all American military personnel who've died in service to our country.

  • Observances: Traditionally, flags are flown at half-staff until noon, then raised to full-staff. There are nationwide parades, memorial services and gatherings honoring veterans and fallen soldiers.

  • Symbolism: Red poppies are the official symbol of Memorial Day, which is why various organizations sell them to fundraise for our veterans.

Hoover Ingredients would like to give thanks and a salute to our military veterans. Have a safe and enjoyable Memorial Day Weekend!
