As we step out of 2023 and into 2024, I’d like to share some current food trend insights. It will be interesting to see what new products and trends come to fruition in 2024 in this ever-changing landscape.
Regenerative Agriculture: Emphasis on foods supporting both your health and the planet's. Look for organic, non-GMO, and regeneratively raised produce, plus products from farms promoting soil health and biodiversity.
Craft Vegan: Beyond the basic veggie burger! Expect nuanced flavors, real, whole ingredients, and artisanal touches in plant-based cheeses, deli alternatives, seafood mimics, and dairy-free spreads.
Mood Foods: Functional foods and supplements incorporating herbs like ashwagandha, antioxidants, and mushrooms targeted at promoting well-being. Think "happy cookies" and cognitive-boosting brain bars.
Beyond Kale: While leafy greens like kale remain important, expect a wider variety of vegetables to take center stage. Roasted cabbage, cucumber ribbons, and Brussels sprouts are set to shine.
Ultra-Processed Out, Transparency In: Ingredient lists getting even more detailed with specific origins and biodiversity information. Expect less "spicy citrus" and more "pomelo & habanero."
Floral Flavors: 2024 might be the year of the peach as "flavor of the year" with cherry blossom, violet, and wildflower notes joining the party. Lightness and femininity are in, inspired by the "peach fuzz" color trend.
